A Peruvian national will serve 14 years behind federal bars after being convicted on armed carjacking and firearm discharge charges, the U.S. Department of Justice announced.

The Justice Department said the case involved two separate charges. The first was armed carjacking. The second was discharging a firearm during the commission of a crime.

Federal prosecutors brought the case, and a court imposed the 14-year term, according to the Justice Department. The defendant's Peruvian nationality was noted as part of the announcement.

The Justice Department confirmed that the prison term, totaling 14 years, was handed down in federal court. The conviction covered both the carjacking offense, which involved a weapon, and the separate charge tied to the discharge of a firearm.
