A Mexican national with 11 prior deportations was sentenced to 13 months and one day in federal prison for unlawful reentry into the United States, the U.S. Department of Justice said.

United States District Judge Cristina D. Silva imposed the sentence in Las Vegas. The defendant, who holds multiple prior felony convictions, had been deported on 3 separate occasions before this case, with a total deportation count of 11 on record, the Justice Department said.

Prosecutors had sought exactly 13 months and one day of custody, and Judge Silva's sentence matched that request. The Justice Department said 3 years of supervised release will follow the prison term once it is served.

The defendant was present in the United States illegally at the time of the offense. The combination of multiple felony convictions and 11 documented deportations formed the backdrop of the case, which was prosecuted in federal court in Las Vegas, Nevada.
