A federal court handed down a 14-year prison sentence to a drug dealer who was carrying a firearm, the U.S. Department of Justice announced.

The defendant was armed at the time of the offense, according to the Justice Department. The case was prosecuted in federal court, and the sentence was imposed there as well.

The Justice Department confirmed the sentencing in a public announcement. The dealer's possession of a gun was a factor in the federal case, the agency stated.

In total, the court ordered the armed trafficker to serve 14 years behind bars in the federal prison system, the Justice Department reported.
