The UN's humanitarian coordination body, OCHA, sounded the alarm on August 10, citing active fighting, mass civilian displacement, and funding shortages that are compounding the crisis. Two days later, the UN renewed its call, describing the August 12 appeal as a repeated one rather than a first.
Fighting has been reported in Sudan's Blue Nile region and in North Kordofan. OCHA stressed the urgent need for stronger measures to protect civilians caught in the conflict.
The UN urged all parties engaged in the fighting to shield the civilian population from harm.
