The U.S. Air Force's 621st Contingency Response Wing has deployed 110 airmen to Venezuela to support earthquake disaster relief operations, the U.S. Department of Defense reported.

The personnel were sent to Simón Bolívar International Airport. That airport is situated in Maiquetía, in the Vargas region of Venezuela.

According to the Department of Defense, the airmen are working alongside local authorities and other disaster relief teams already operating in the country. The mission is focused on expanding the intake of humanitarian aid through air transport in a safe and organized manner, the department said.

The 621st Contingency Response Wing's deployment comes in direct response to an earthquake that struck Venezuela. With 110 airmen now on the ground at Simón Bolívar International Airport, the wing is working to increase the volume of relief supplies that can be received and processed by air.
