A K2 Airways Boeing 737 cargo aircraft with five crew members aboard went missing over the Arabian Sea while approaching Karachi on Tuesday, Pakistani aviation officials said.

The flight had departed Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates for Karachi, Pakistan. The crew reported a navigation-system malfunction before radar and radio contact were lost about 155 nautical miles west of Karachi.

The aircraft was operating as a cargo service, and no passengers were reported on board. The Pakistan Airports Authority said search and rescue operations were launched with military and civilian aircraft and vessels. Officials had not announced the crew's status or the cause of the loss of contact.
