A federal grand jury in Boston has indicted a Pittsfield man on charges that he fraudulently posed as a United States Army veteran for more than 30 years to obtain VA medical care and other benefits, the U.S. Department of Justice announced.
The indictment, according to the U.S. Department of Justice, includes counts of health care fraud, making false statements, and aggravated identity theft. The case was filed in Boston.
The U.S. Department of Justice said the defendant allegedly used the false military identity to receive treatment at VA medical centers and to collect additional benefits beyond medical care. The alleged scheme stretched across more than three decades, the department said.
