Kerr Kriisa, a 25-year-old Estonian national and former college basketball player, was arrested and charged with five counts of wire fraud, the U.S. Department of Justice announced.
U.S. Attorney Matthew L. Harvey announced the charges, which allege that Kriisa obtained nearly $2.2 million from multiple victims through a scheme that ran from 2022 through June 2, 2026. According to the Justice Department, the alleged conduct took place in Monongalia County, West Virginia, and in other locations.
The Justice Department said the scheme relied on false representations, fabricated identities, and deceptive communications to deceive victims. Kriisa is scheduled to appear in federal court this week.
The five wire fraud counts stem from allegations that Kriisa used fraudulent methods to extract close to $2.2 million from victims over a period of several years, per the Justice Department.
