A 29-year-old Lakeland, Florida man was sentenced to 30 years in federal prison for a shooting that left a 70-year-old grandmother dead and wounded three other people, the U.S. Department of Justice announced.

United States District Judge Kathryn Mizelle imposed the sentence in Tampa, Florida, according to the Justice Department. U.S. Attorney Gregory Kehoe announced the outcome.

The defendant, Taqiy Lewis, had entered a guilty plea on March 2, 2026, the Justice Department said. Lewis admitted to possessing a firearm as a convicted felon, and his plea also covered possession of ammunition under the same prohibited status.

The shooting that prompted the federal charges claimed the life of a grandmother, age 70, and left three additional victims with injuries, per the Justice Department. Lewis is from Lakeland, Florida.

The Justice Department said the 30-year federal prison term was handed down by Judge Mizelle in Tampa following Lewis's guilty plea earlier this year.
