The World Health Organization has changed its Ebola response strategy in the Democratic Republic of the Congo after finding that the majority of fatalities are occurring in communities rather than in treatment facilities, United Nations News reported on August 10, 2026.
The death toll from the outbreak has surpassed 1,900 people. Between 60 and 70% of those deaths are happening within communities, far from any medical care, according to UN News.
The gap between where people are dying and where treatment is available has become the central focus of the WHO's revised approach.
