Volker Türk, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, called on DRC armed forces and the Rwanda-backed M23 group to stop fighting in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, United Nations News reported on Thursday, July 10.
Türk deplored recent civilian deaths caused by the ongoing conflict. "Use of explosive weapons must stop in eastern DR Congo," he said, demanding that all armed parties cease hostilities immediately.
The fighting is concentrated in the eastern part of the country, where civilian casualties have continued to mount.
