The Tompkins County District Attorney revived a sexual assault inquiry on September 28, 2026, targeting seven members of Cornell University's Chi Phi fraternity over an alleged rape that took place in 2024.
The case was reopened weeks after an anonymous female student filed a civil lawsuit, NBC News reported. That suit names the seven fraternity members, Chi Phi itself, and Cornell University as defendants. The student alleges she was drugged at a fraternity party before the assault occurred.
New York state prosecutors are also involved in reexamining the matter, NPR said.
