The Rhode Island Department of Public Safety has received a $72,173 federal grant to fund residential substance abuse treatment in state prisons, the U.S. Department of Justice announced in Providence.

The Justice Department's Office of Justice Programs issued the award through its Bureau of Justice Assistance, which administers the grant program. Funding falls under the fiscal year 2025 cycle and is distributed through a formula-based structure.

The grant targets substance use treatment services for incarcerated individuals held in state prison facilities.
