The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission has named Paul Knight to serve as its Chief Operating Officer, the agency announced.

Knight, whose title carries the abbreviation COO, will take charge of the commission's day-to-day operational functions, according to the SEC. Administrative functions across the agency will also fall under his authority, the commission said.

Among the units Knight will supervise is the Office of the COO itself, the SEC reported. In that capacity, he becomes responsible for coordinating the internal machinery that keeps the commission running.

The SEC's announcement confirmed that Knight's appointment places him at the center of the agency's organizational structure, with both operational and administrative responsibilities consolidated under his oversight.
