A coordinated law enforcement effort called Operation Patriot Shield resulted in 224 fugitive arrests across Missouri and Illinois during June, the U.S. Department of Justice reported.

The U.S. Department of Justice said the operation ran throughout the entire month of June. According to the U.S. Department of Justice, the effort was designed to promote safer communities in both states.

The timing of the operation was deliberate, the U.S. Department of Justice noted, with the sweep conducted ahead of the United States' 250th birthday. Missouri and Illinois were the two states covered by the operation, which brought in fugitives over the course of the month.

In total, the U.S. Department of Justice confirmed, 224 individuals facing outstanding warrants were taken into custody as part of Operation Patriot Shield's June sweep across the two states.
