Over 30 community water utilities across Minnesota were struck by cyberattacks, Dark Reading and CyberScoop reported on July 30 and 31, 2026. U.S. intelligence agencies assessed a likely Iran-backed threat actor as responsible.

President Trump publicly blamed Minnesota for the attacks, a position that contradicted his own agencies' conclusions, CyberScoop reported. That attribution drew pushback from the cybersecurity community.

The targeted systems are part of U.S. critical infrastructure. Dark Reading described the incidents as a reminder of growing cyber threats to that sector.
