A cyberattack breached IT systems at North Carolina Ports around August 6, 2026, forcing staff to shift to manual processing of operations, The Record reported. An outside actor or group carried out the intrusion, which officials described as contained.

Gate access systems were disrupted across all three ports the state operates, CyberScoop reported. The U.S. Coast Guard opened an investigation and is monitoring the continuing effects on port operations. State officials are also investigating the breach.

Investigators are still assessing the full operational impact of the attack, CyberScoop said.
