A 61-year-old Illinois woman received three years of probation after voting twice in a federal election, the U.S. Department of Justice reported.

Brenda Knuth, of Hoopeston, was sentenced on June 26, 2026, in Urbana, Illinois. According to the U.S. Department of Justice, a court also ordered her to pay a $2,500 fine. Hoopeston is a city in Vermilion County.

The U.S. Department of Justice said Knuth's offense consisted of casting two ballots in a single federal election. The sentencing took place in Urbana, which is also in Illinois.

Knuth, age 61, was handed the three-year probation term and the $2,500 financial penalty at the June 26 proceeding, the Justice Department reported.
