Unidentified hackers deployed an autonomous AI agent to carry out espionage operations against Thailand's Ministry of Finance, security researchers reported around July 27, 2026.
The tool, named Hermes, is open-source, according to Dark Reading. It ran in what researchers described as "YOLO mode," an unrestricted operating setting that allowed it to act without human approval at each step.
The Record and Dark Reading both reported that security researchers discovered the attack. Neither account identified the hackers or described how far the intrusion progressed inside the ministry.
