The European Commission levied a €550 million penalty against AliExpress on July 20, 2026, finding that the e-commerce platform had failed to meet its Digital Services Act requirements and had not carried out EU-ordered fixes.
The Commission determined that AliExpress had not diligently assessed risks on its platform or taken adequate steps to reduce the circulation of illegal, unsafe, or counterfeit products. Brussels also ordered the company to take corrective action.
The penalty is the largest ever handed down under the Digital Services Act, according to Ars Technica, which put its value at roughly $625 million USD. AliExpress described itself as shocked by the fine, Ars Technica said.
