More than 1,000 domains that had been broadcasting FIFA World Cup Finals matches without authorization were seized by the U.S. Department of Justice on July 20, 2026.
The action unfolded across three separate enforcement operations during the tournament. Nearly 400 of the affected sites had already been taken offline by the end of June 2026, the Justice Department said.
The domains violated U.S. copyright law by carrying unauthorized streams of World Cup matches, according to the Justice Department. The investigation was conducted by the HSI Washington Field Office, a component of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, along with the National Intellectual Property Rights Coordination Center.
The Record also reported the total domain count across all three actions exceeded 1,000.
