A man named Jawad Fakroune has been sentenced to 6.5 years in federal prison for extorting a Chicago restaurant owner, the U.S. Department of Justice announced.
According to the Justice Department, Fakroune physically attacked the restaurateur during the extortion, kicking and punching the victim. Fakroune also directed threats at the victim's family, the Justice Department said.
The targeted business owner operated a restaurant in Chicago. The Justice Department reported that Fakroune demanded money from the owner and used violence and intimidation to carry out the scheme.
A federal court imposed the 6.5-year term on Fakroune for his role in the extortion, which involved both physical assault and threats against the victim's relatives, per the Justice Department.
