A 20-year-old California man was sentenced to 60 months in federal prison on June 23 after pleading guilty to assaulting federal officers and transporting an undocumented alien for profit, the U.S. Department of Justice reported.

Joe Martin Cruz, Jr. is from San Pedro, CA. United States District Judge Angela M. Martinez presided over the sentencing, which took place in Tucson, Arizona, according to the Justice Department.

Cruz entered guilty pleas on three charges in total. Two of those charges involved assault on a federal officer, and the third involved transporting an undocumented alien for profit, the Justice Department said.

The 60-month sentence was imposed on Cruz, who was 20 years old at the time of sentencing, per the Justice Department. Judge Martinez conducted the proceedings in Tucson.
