A third giant planet has been found orbiting Beta Pictoris, bringing the total of known giant worlds in that system to three, NASA announced on July 15, 2026.

The James Webb Space Telescope made the detection, pulling the planet out from where it had been concealed within the Beta Pictoris system. Beta Pictoris is a young star. It sits relatively close to Earth inside the Milky Way galaxy and ranks among the most intensely studied planetary systems known.

Two giant planets had already been confirmed there before this discovery. One of them, Beta Pictoris b, was among the first exoplanets ever directly imaged, NASA said.
