The UN Security Council convened an emergency meeting on July 14, 2026, to address escalating tensions in Yemen, United Nations News reported. The session began at 3:00 PM local time in New York.
Top UN officials briefed the Council on both the humanitarian and political conditions inside Yemen. Hans Grundberg, the UN Secretary-General's Special Envoy for Yemen, called for swift de-escalation in the country.
The emergency session came after two separate developments raised alarm: Saudi Arabian airstrikes in Yemen and the landing of Iranian aircraft there, according to United Nations News.
