A 7.4-magnitude earthquake struck western Colombia on August 10, 2026, and ten days later an estimated 1.2 million people required humanitarian assistance, United Nations News reported.
The UN was expanding its relief operations as of August 18, with the effort at that point targeting roughly 100,000 people, according to United Nations News. The agency described growing humanitarian needs in the region following the quake.
By August 20, multiple UN agencies reported that some communities had received little or no aid, and certain affected areas remained beyond the reach of relief workers.
