The United Nations called on the Taliban on August 10, 2026, to be transparent about how it handles abuses committed by its security forces, five years into Taliban rule in Afghanistan.

UN News reported that Afghans have almost no way to determine whether soldiers, police, or morality officers face any consequences for abusive conduct. That secrecy, the UN said, is eroding public trust in the Afghan state.

The UN urged the Taliban to open up about its accountability processes for security personnel.
