A 65-year-old man became the first person charged in the United Kingdom over the 1994 Rwandan genocide when Dr Vincent Brown appeared at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, September 22, 2026. He faces seven offences in total, according to BBC News and The Guardian.
Brown, who previously went by the name Dr Vincent Bajinya, now lives in Islington, north London. The Guardian reported that he formerly resided in Kigali, the capital of Rwanda.
The charges followed a seven-year British investigation into killings carried out during the genocide, BBC News said. The case is the first of its kind to be brought before a UK court.
