A commercial cargo vessel was left inoperable in the Gulf of Oman after its crew ignored repeated warnings and attempted to run a naval blockade against Iran, the U.S. Department of Defense said.

U.S. Central Command service members carried out the action. The vessel was operating within the Centcom area when forces moved to stop it from breaching the blockade, the Defense Department said.

The crew received multiple warnings before any action was taken. Despite those warnings, the crew continued toward the blockade line, prompting Centcom forces to render the ship unable to proceed.

A naval blockade against Iran is currently in effect, the Defense Department confirmed. The incident took place before October 13, 2026.
