Two U.S. service members were killed and a third went missing during combat operations in Jordan on July 18, 2026, after Iran launched ballistic missiles and drones at the country.
U.S. Central Command announced the deaths and said "Partner forces defended against Iranian ballistic missile and drone attacks." Jordan said it intercepted 10 of the incoming Iranian missiles, with the projectiles having entered Jordanian airspace overnight into July 18. Jordan's announcement of the interceptions came before U.S. Central Command issued its statement, BBC News reported.
NPR said partner forces were engaged alongside U.S. troops in defending against the assault. The status of the missing service member had not been resolved as of the U.S. Central Command announcement.
