The White House unveiled more than $5 billion in federal funding for the Genesis Mission on July 22, 2026, a national program directing artificial intelligence toward complex scientific and engineering challenges.
Michael Kratsios, who serves as both Assistant to the President and Director of the Office of Science and Technology Policy, made the announcement in Washington, DC. A Genesis Mission 2026 Summit was held live the same day, and new National Science and Technology Challenges were introduced alongside the funding commitments.
President Donald J. Trump had signed the executive order titled "Launching the Genesis Mission" on November 24, 2025, establishing the program's mandate to apply AI to difficult problems in science and engineering, according to NASA. NASA is participating in the mission, with a role focused on supporting AI-driven approaches to advancing discovery.
The White House said the initiative aims to open a new era of scientific discovery.
