Osiris, a 26-year-old female beluga whale, died at Chicago's Shedd Aquarium on September 22, 2026, becoming the third beluga from Canada's Marineland park to die at the facility, according to ABC News and NBC News.
The aquarium received the whales through an international rescue operation targeting Canada's last captive belugas. Marineland, the Canadian marine park where the animals had been held, has since shuttered.
NBC News reported that the whales were struggling to adapt after being moved to a new environment. Osiris was among those who did not survive the transition.
