Three survivors of the Srebrenica genocide spoke to UN News about preserving the memory of victims and pushing back against what they described as a rising current of denial surrounding the massacre.

The killings took place in Srebrenica, a town in Bosnia and Herzegovina, in July 1995. More than 8,300 men and boys were killed, according to UN News.

The survivors said efforts to keep victims' memory alive have become more urgent as denial of the massacre grows. They did not specify what forms that denial has taken, but their accounts centered on the need to counter it directly. The three spoke to UN News to draw attention to that challenge.
