Nigeria's health ministry confirmed an Ebola infection in Abuja on October 20, 2026, after a woman who had traveled from Uganda tested positive for the virus.
The woman began showing symptoms on October 7, 2026, according to The Guardian. Four days later, on October 11, she was taken to an Abuja hospital, where her diagnosis was confirmed following admission. Authorities have not established the exact date she entered Nigeria.
The case places Nigeria among the latest countries drawn into a regional outbreak that has been moving westward across Africa, NPR reported. Kenya recorded its first Ebola infection earlier in October 2026 and has since logged 9 total cases. Nigeria is Africa's most populous country, The Guardian noted.
