A New Hampshire man set a record on September 4, 2026, by living for 271 days with a transplanted pig kidney functioning in his body while he waited for a human donor organ.

BBC News and NBC News both reported the 271-day span, which equals roughly nine months and surpasses any previous duration for a pig kidney transplant in a human patient. The man had been near death approximately one and a half years before September 4, 2026, NBC News said.

Speaking publicly about his condition on September 4, 2026, the patient said he could now have "decades" left.

The procedure is considered potentially beneficial for many other patients, NBC News reported.
