Flash floods in Nepal's Bhotekoshi-Trishuli river basin have cut off at least 22,000 children from safe drinking water, the United Nations Children's Fund reported on September 3, 2026.

The children also require sanitation and hygiene support, UNICEF said. More than a week had passed since the floods struck the river basin by the time the agency issued its assessment.

The Bhotekoshi-Trishuli basin runs through Nepal. Flash flooding there disrupted water and sanitation access across the affected communities, United Nations News reported.
