NASA astronaut Chris Williams captured an orbital sunrise photograph on June 26, 2026, according to NASA, which credited both the agency and Williams for the image.
Williams was aboard the International Space Station when he took the photo. NASA reports that the station circles Earth 16 times every 24 hours, meaning crew members pass through 16 sunrises and 16 sunsets within a single day.
The image was taken from orbit on that June date, NASA confirmed. Because the station completes 16 full orbits daily, astronauts aboard experience far more sunrises in a day than observers on the ground. NASA and Williams share credit for the photograph.
