Two boats carrying roughly 530 Rohingya passengers capsized off the coast of Myanmar in late June 2026, with all aboard feared dead, according to the UN's International Organization for Migration and the UN refugee agency UNHCR.

Both vessels departed Myanmar on June 29, 2026, and neither has been seen since, BBC News reported. The passengers were mostly members of the Muslim Rohingya minority.

The IOM and UNHCR issued a joint statement of alarm on July 16, 2026. "Two boats carrying more than 500 people may have capsized off the coast of Myanmar in recent days," the two agencies said.

At least 500 people are feared dead across the two wrecks, United Nations News reported.
