Mississippi Attorney General Lynn Fitch's office ruled on October 19, 2026, that the fatal police shooting of one-year-old Kohen Wiley was "justified."

Kohen was killed on June 14, 2026, in a Walmart parking lot in Senatobia, a small city near Memphis. Officers fired into a vehicle carrying his mother, Vellesiya Wiley, and her friend Latoya Ferrell, who was driving. The child was sitting in his mother's lap at the time. Ferrell was injured in the shooting, according to The Guardian and NBC News.

Police had responded to a shoplifting call. The allegation centered on a stolen pack of diapers. Neither Vellesiya Wiley nor Ferrell has faced criminal charges, and no shoplifting evidence has been made public by authorities.
