England defeated Mexico 3-2 at Estadio Azteca, ending Mexico's participation in the World Cup, NPR and BBC News reported.

Estadio Azteca is in Mexico City. NPR noted the venue sits at high altitude and drew an attendance of 80,824 fans for the match.

Mexico put two goals on the board, but England's three were enough to secure the result, according to NPR. For much of the second half, England had a numerical advantage on the field, with one more player than Mexico. Even so, NPR reported, Mexico was never able to draw level at any point during the contest.

BBC News reported that Mexican fans were left devastated by the outcome. "It's a very sad day," fans told BBC News.

England's 3-2 victory, confirmed by both NPR and BBC News, brought Mexico's World Cup run to a close.
