A Kenyan court sentenced doomsday cult leader Paul Mackenzie on November 6, 2026, after convicting him of the murders of 191 people, the vast majority of them children.
BBC News reported that 190 of the victims were children and one was an adult. Mackenzie had instructed followers to deny food to their children, telling them that death by starvation would allow them to meet Jesus. The deaths took place in a forest in Kenya.
The two outlets differed on the length of the sentence. BBC News reported that Mackenzie received a life term, while NPR put the sentence at 200 years in prison.
