At least six people died after storms and record flooding swept across Indiana beginning August 11, 2026, with the White River in Indianapolis cresting at peak levels around August 16. Liz Woods, a spokesperson for Indiana's state homeland security department, confirmed the toll and identified the victims as three women, two men, and a four-year-old boy.

Several Indianapolis suburbs were also submerged, according to NPR. Certain parts of the state recorded more than 11 inches of rain over a three-day period, and the flooding reached record levels, NPR reported.

The Guardian said rain was expected to ease across the Indianapolis region and other parts of Indiana on August 16, 2026.
