Federal immigration agents broke the arm of Ricardo Gonzalez, a U.S. citizen and former Long Beach city employee, during a confrontation with protesters in Long Beach, California, on October 18, 2026.
Video of the incident, reported by The Guardian, shows Gonzalez handcuffed and face down in a gutter with ICE officers kneeling on his back. NBC News reported that the footage captures Gonzalez screaming that his arm was broken while he was pinned to the ground. He was taken to hospital after the confrontation.
The Department of Homeland Security said agents were conducting a targeted enforcement operation at the time. NBC News noted that what led to the moment Gonzalez was pinned down remained unclear.
An unnamed Democratic congressman called the incident a "brutal attack." Gonzalez was identified by both outlets as a U.S. citizen.
