NPR reported that Nolo has followed a zig-zagging path through the Pacific and is predicted to slow as it closes in on the island. That deceleration matters: a slower storm drops more rain over the same area, raising the risk of life-threatening flash flooding on an island that has already seen significant flooding from large storms during the summer of 2026.
NBC News, reporting from Naalehu, Hawaii, said residents also face dangerous surf along the Big Island's coast as the storm approaches.
