The Federal Trade Commission sent warning letters to eight companies over allegedly false claims about where their products were made.

Seven of the companies, the FTC said, labeled certain goods as "Made in the USA." The eighth company used the phrase "Made in Texas" on its products. In both cases, the FTC said the items were imported, either entirely or in significant part.

The letters call on all eight companies to bring their practices into line with the FTC's Made in the USA Standard, the agency stated.

The FTC's action covers a range of products whose domestic-origin claims the agency says do not hold up. The commission determined that the goods were sourced from outside the United States, fully or to a substantial degree, making the advertised origin labels inaccurate under federal standards.
