The Federal Trade Commission and five states reached a settlement with Zillow and Redfin on August 24, 2026, filing a stipulated order in federal court to resolve antitrust litigation over an allegedly unlawful agreement between the two companies.
The FTC said the case centered on digital rental listing services, covering both the apartment-search tools that renters rely on and the advertising platforms that property managers use to post vacancies. The agency characterized the Zillow-Redfin agreement as unlawful and said it harmed competition in that market.
Under the settlement terms, Redfin is required to reenter the internet listing services market, including the rental advertising business, according to the FTC and TechCrunch. The order is designed to position Redfin as a stronger competitor in the space.
The FTC said the settlement is intended to restore competition across online rental listing platforms.
