Congo's Ebola outbreak had produced 2,423 confirmed cases and 967 deaths as of July 19, 2026, with 469 patients having recovered, according to the Democratic Republic of the Congo government.
The virus has taken hold primarily in eastern areas of the country, where ongoing insecurity is hampering containment efforts, United Nations News reported. UN health teams and partners are working to bring the outbreak under control.
NPR reported a 24-hour period in which 37 people died, which the outlet said was among the highest single-day death tolls recorded since the outbreak began. NPR's figures, also drawn from Congo's health ministry, put the cumulative death count at 930 out of 2,344 confirmed cases.
The World Health Organization has observed some signs of stabilization, though the outbreak was still expanding as of mid-July 2026, United Nations News said.
