An Arizona congressional candidate said she was raped on or before October 8, 2026, while repairing one of her campaign signs. Bernadette Greene-Placentia told BBC News and NBC News that she was struck from behind during the incident, losing consciousness from the blow.

When she regained awareness, Greene-Placentia said, she found two men attacking her. She described her memory of the attack as incomplete, NBC News reported.

Greene-Placentia said she believes the assault may have been politically motivated.
